Subtonic
debut album "In this house" AIMCD106.
Subtonic is a quintet who met at the Norwegian Academy of
Music in Oslo, Norway. The band has its origin from different
musical styles such as mainstream jazz and more freely based
music.
The music is written by all the members of the band and is
inspired by both the American jazz tradition, as well as the
European sound. Today the band has evolved their music more
into peculiar and extended compositions, where they try to
focus on melody and texture, combined with energy and space.
Julie Dahle Aagård writes most of the lyrics.
Strong melodies and a powerful rhythm section initiate Subtonic.
Subtonic is on a program sponsored by the Norwegian company
Statoil in cooperation with Oslo Jazz festival. The sponsor
agreement is set to last three years, with possibilities for
extensions. Since 1991 Statoil has supported young talents
within classical music. Musicians like cello player Truls
Mørk, piano player Leif Ove Andsnes and trumpet player
Ole Edvard Antonsen have received fundings. Now Statoil are
supporting Subtonic.
